Sheldon H. Cohen Award for Outstanding Service to KNPS
About the Award
The award is given to an individual who has made an important contribution to KNPS.
Nomination
2011 Recipient
Shirley Braunlich of Lawrence, KS
Shirley has been an advocate for native plants & KNPS from the time she began serving on the board. She has been the organizations lead in compiling lists of events that our members would be interested in attending. She has also planned and lead various wildflower hikes in the Lawrence area and elsewhere. She also promotes native plants and KNPS at her place of work, the Lawrence Public Library. Each year she works to get a State Proclamation naming June as Native Plant Appreciation Month. KNPS would not be the organization it is without the efforts of Shirley.
Craig Freeman, Shirley Braunlich, Valerie Wright
2010 Recipient
Lorraine Kaufman of Moundridge, KS
Lorraine's enthusiasm for the native prairie has brought many others to learn about the plants growing all around them. Some of her "students" are now on the Board of KNPS because of her influence. Her writings about the prairie for our newsletter and in her column "Wildflower Watch" show her continuing love for all things prairie. And she puts into practice what she says on her own land with her family conservation efforts that our organization supports.
