2004 Annual Meeting

Sedan, Kansas on October 1-3, 2004

Friday. October 1

Meet at the Butcher Falls Nature Center about 3 miles from the turn off of Hwy 99.

3:30 pm An afternoon walk at the Red Buffalo Ranch to view the unique flora of the area.

6:00 pm A Chuck Wagon Supper at Butcher Falls Nature Center.

7:00 pm KWS Board meeting.

Saturday, October 2

Meet at Art of the Prairie Gallery, Main & Douglas, Downtown Sedan, Kansas.

8:00 am Registration and displays. Set up Photo Contest and Name the Newsletter event.

9:00 am A special presentation of photographs from the slide collection recently donated to KWS by Eric Farnsworth of Lawrence, KS. The photos were taken by Eric’s mother, Janet, an accomplished
photographer.

9:30 am Guest Speaker, Daniel Griffin, Tree Ring Lab, University of Arkansas, will speak about the Ancient Cross Timbers ecosystem. Sedan, KS, is in the center of this unique post oak/blackjack oak tallgrass prairie savannah. Break

11:00 am KWS Annual Meeting.

11:30 am Announcement of Photo Contest Winners! Door Prizes and more!

12:30 pm Private luncheon at Tom McCann’s Restaurant, Main Street.

2:00 pm to 4:00 p.m.: Butcher Falls Trail Wildflower Hike & automobile tours along the roads of the Red Buffalo Ranch. Dan Griffin and Dr. David Stahle, U. of Arkansas, will accompany us.

5:30 pm Supper on your own.

Sunday. October 3

9:00 am Meet at Main & Douglas, Sedan, to caravan to The Nature Conservancy’s Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, 20 miles south of Sedan across the Oklahoma border. We will be met at the preserve by a staff member at 10:00 am
