Plants Endemic to Kansas

Two vascular plants are considered endemic to Kansas.

  • Staw-flower wild-buckwheat (Eriogonum helichrysoides) is found only in the chalk prairies in western Kansas.
  • James' wild-buckwheat (Eriogonum jamesii var. simplex) is found in same general area as above; the species is widespread in the Great Plains and Rockies, but this variety is endemic to KS
