Hidden Valley Trails Day • Douglas County

Saturday, Jun 3rd, 2017 @ 8am-1pm
Hidden Valley Camp • 3420 Bob Billings Pkwy • Lawrence, KS • Map

Celebrate National Trails Day at Hidden Valley Camp in Lawrence, KS. Friends of Hidden Valley are inviting the public to either help with trail maintenance projects from 8-11:00 am, and/or join a guided hiking tour of the camp, beginning at 11:30 and noon.

Crew leaders will direct volunteers on trail maintenance projects, most of which entails removal of the invasive honeysuckle shrubs that heavily encroach on the trails. Most work is accomplished with provided loppers, or bring your own. Any amount of time is appreciated.

Trail guides will offer both short (30+ minutes on easy terrain) or longer hikes that cover most of the 2 miles of trails (1+ hour on steeper terrain). See our native butterfly garden, flowering bioswale, expansive pollinator gardens, new nature exhibits in the yurt, and our efforts at honeysuckle elimination in the woods. After your tour, enjoy trail mix, lemonade, exhibits, and meet the members of the Friends Board of Directors.

No reservations necessary, but all guests must sign in. Wear appropriate clothing, including enclosed, sturdy shoes, and apply insect repellent. If you are doing trail maintenance, long plants and shirts advised. No strollers or dogs please. Rain date is June 4th.
