9th Annual Marvin Schwilling Memorial Butterfly Count in the Flint Hills • Chase County

Where: Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve and a 7.5-mile radius
outside of the preserve

When: Saturday, June 24, 2017

Time: 8:30 AM to 12:00 (noon) and 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM
(whole or half day available)

Meet: In historic stone barn at 8:15 AM; 12:20 PM for those
interested in the afternoon count

No experience or knowledge about butterflies required; learn as you go. Suggested items to wear include hiking-type shoes/boots, long pants and hat. Important items to remember are sunscreen, bug spray and a sack lunch if you plan on counting butterflies all day. A digital camera, binoculars and butterfly identification guides are handy. Binoculars will be available to borrow. Water to fill bottles will be available. For groups traveling off the preserve, transportation to counting locations will be by car-pooling in private vehicles, which will be no further than 7 miles one way.
