Spring Planting and Workday at Hidden Valley Camp • Douglas County

Saturday, Apr 14th, 2018 @ 1-4pm
Hidden Valley Camp • 3420 Bob Billings Pkwy • Lawrence, KS • Map

This popular spring workday at Hidden Valley Camp is open to the public. Individuals, groups and families are invited to join local Girl Scouts and other youth groups in helping to maintain this 40-acre semi-wilderness urban camp in the heart of Lawrence, KS. The Honeysuckle Warriors have been cutting and removing the invasive honeysuckle shrub from our woods all winter, and now we will go in and establish native plantings of trees, shrubs, wildflowers and grasses. Other projects include cutting, hauling and burning more honeysuckle, establishing water bars above the streams to prevent erosion from all the clearing, mulching young saplings, stocking woodpiles, renovating campsites and fire rings, gardening in our butterfly gardens, litter pickup in the streams, and more. Jobs for all abilities and ages; no experience necessary.

Park in the main lot and sign in at Evelyn's Attic--the big green garage. Car pooling is highly recommended. No unaccompanied minors under 15. For those 15 and above, a parental waiver can be requested by emailing the contact. Dress for outdoor work, in layers, and wear totally enclosed shoes. Gloves, tools, instruction/oversight, ice water, and refreshments provided. Please bring your own water bottle.

RSVP's not required, but appreciated. If you are new to volunteering at Hidden Valley, please RSVP for more information. A rain date of April 28 has been set. Check our Facebook for cancellations: friends-of-lawrence-hidden-valley.
