How Prairie Wildflowers Reveal Their Life Histories. In this field class we will visit the wildflowers of the Kansas prairie and study the special designs that equip each to meet the demands of their roles in the prairie community. Questions will be asked about their origins, their relationships to other prairie plants, soils, and habitat sites preferences, events in their seasonal and daily lives, values for human food and medicine and tolerance to grazing, invasive plants and fire. Answers from the prairie plants will provide our class with an in depth understanding of the dynamics of the prairie ecosystem. Great Plains Nature Center, 6232 E. 29th Street North, Wichita, KS.
