Akin Prairie With Both Kansas & Virginia Native Plant Societies • Douglas County

Please join the convergence of two native plant societies as they delight in a high quality prairie in Douglas County, KS from 9-11am. Virginia Native Plant Society is making a field trip to Kansas in June and one of their many stops is to enjoy the Akin Prairie. This prairie is protected by a conservation easement from the Kansas Land Trust. Shirley Braunlich, Board Member with the Kansas Native Plant Society will lead this tour. Directions: Two miles east of Lawrence on K-10, take the E. 1900 Rd (Douglas Co. 1057) exit and go south two miles to N. 1150 Road. Take N. 1150 to the west (right) about .4 mi. The prairie is on the south, and the top of the hill. You’ll see an iron gate, and just inside the fence, a small memorial to Ms. Akin.
