Manhattan Region Prairie Outing • Riley County

R.B. Outpost • 7003 Tuttle Creek Boulevard • Manhattan, KS • Map
The Manhattan Region of KNPS is sponsoring a prairie outing on the evening of June 23 @ 6:30 PM. We will be visiting a 480-acre tract of native prairie pastureland that belongs to Bob Haines of Manhattan. Several years ago, Bob became interested in improving this pasture and another nearby tract that have been in his family since his grandfather purchased them. He has decreased the cattle stocking rate, been removing trees and woody vegetation, and has started a rotational burning regimen. His efforts won him the Riley County Conservation Grassland Award last year. There is a very diverse grass and forbs plant community on this tract. We will meet next to the R.B. Outpost (A business on the northeast side of the highway just past Blue River Hills Road) on US-24 north of Manhattan @ 6:30. Travel 4.6 miles northwest from the intersection of K-113 & US-24 northwest of Manhattan to get to the R.B. Outpost. For information, call Earl Allen @785-539-5896.
