GHF Purple Loosestrife Eradication Day and Trade-In Event • Douglas County

On Aug. 18, 2011 The Grassland Heritage Foundation (GHF) will host our 3rd Annual Purple Loosestrife Eradication Day and plant Trade-In Event from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM at the Pat Dawson-Billings Nature Area. The entrance to the Nature Area is southwest of the intersection of 27th Street & Crossgate Drive. We’ll tear out invasive purple loosestrife plants from the park and homeowners can bring purple loosestrife plants from their yards and receive a FREE native prairie plant as a replacement!
We need your help! If you'd like to do your part to protect our wetlands and wet prairies, bring your shovels, trowels, and gloves and help us get rid of this wetland invader. Wear sturdy shoes that can get wet and bring a bottle for water. GHF will have extra tools, water and other refreshments on hand.
New this year is a special opportunity for homeowners. All Douglas County homeowners who have purple loosestrife plants growing in their yards can bring the plants to the event and GHF will give them FREE native flowering plants as replacements. This is a one-to-one trade with a limit of 3 replacement plants per household. This is a great opportunity for homeowners to get rid of a dangerous plant and get a great prairie native in return. Some rules do apply so contact GHF for all of the details.
An RSVP is preferred. This is a rain or shine event. Contact Kim Bellemere, GHF Membership and Education Coordinator at email@example.com or 785-840-8104 for more information, a list of plant trade-in rules, and to RSVP. Also, check out the GHF Facebook page for updates.
