Invasive Plants of the Greater KC Area • Douglas County

Please join the Jayhawk Audubon Society and the Grassland Heritage Foundation on September 24th for a presentation by Dr. Alan Branhagen, Director of Horticulture at Powell Gardens of Kansas City, MO. Dr. Branhagan's topic will be “Invasive Plants of the Greater Kansas City Area.” The program should answer the question of what is an invasive exotic plant in our region. There are native invasive plants, weeds, and official Missouri and Kansas noxious weed lists that are not the same as invasive exotics that threaten our natural landscapes. The program will mainly focus on invasive exotics that are still available and sold to unsuspecting consumers. Learn what you can do to spread the word about these plants, remove them and replace them with natives or non-invasive, well adapted plants. The program will be at 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 New Hampshire, Lawrence. This is a free educational event sponsored by the Jayhawk Audubon Society and the Grassland Heritage Foundation. Please contact Kim Bellemere, GHF Education Coodinator, at 785-840-8104 or firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP and with questions.
