Cedar Crest Woodland Wildflower Walk • Shawnee County
Tuesday, Apr 2nd, 2013 @ 6pm
Cedar Crest • 1 SW Cedar Crest Rd • Topeka, KS • Map
Explore the woods at MacLennan Park (Cedar Crest). These oak-hickory woods have an abundance of native woodland wildflowers. We will hike on the Kansas Trails Councilís newly built trails at MacLennan Park and scout for wildflowers. The first wildflowers of the season will be blooming: fawn lily (both the pink and the white species) and Dutchman's breeches. Meet at the parking lot on the west side of the governor mansion. Directions: From I-70, take the Fairlawn exit, go north to Cedar Crest and take a left, follow road to parking lot. After the walk, we will go out for dinner and drinks at El Mezcal at 21st & Fairlawn.

17 people attended the event.
The late spring weather slowed down the wildflowers a bit but we were still able to find flowering specimens of prairie trout lily, white tinged sedge, and almost flowering Dutchman's breeches. Six master gardeners were in attendance. People came from as faraway as Manhattan and Lawrence. After the walk, eight of us met for dinner.
