Prairie Inspired Art Symposium • Harvey County
Saturday, Mar 9th, 2013 @ 9am-3:40pm
Dyck Arboretum of the Plains • 177 W. Hickory • Hesston, KS • Map
Kansas is fortunate to have within its boundaries some of the most expansive tracts of tallgrass prairie in the world and can, more than any other place, lay claim to the prairie as its iconic landscape. Prairie shapes the ecology and biology of our native Kansas wildlife, it permeates our natural and cultural history giving us a sense of place, and it is foundational to our ranching and agricultural economy. The prairie identity is also richly represented in the visual arts.
Talented Kansas artists are embracing the prairie and enriching the lives of people through their art expressed in a variety of forms. This symposium will showcase brief presentations from artists representing a diversity of media as they share images, processes, stories and inspirations that expand the beauty of their work. Works of art will also be on display and for sale. Come help us celebrate this connection between the visual arts and the prairie!
