The 2013 School theme is Creating Range Wealth through Soil Health. This 3-day school covers basic principles of grassland ecology focusing on soil health, plant identification, forage measuring and monitoring, wildlife/livestock interactions - especially the Lesser Prairie Chicken, rangeland improvement concepts, practices, and systems. Wednesday is spent on The Nature Conservancy's Smoky Valley Ranch. The course is a blend of hands-on field exercises and classroom instruction using a cadre of instructors from NRCS, Ft. Hays State University, K-State Agronomy/Extension/Ag Station, TNC staff, state agency staff, and ranchers. Visit www.kglc.org and look in the navigation bar for 2013 Range Schools for more details.
