The 2013 theme is Creating Range Wealth through Soil Health. The School covers the basic principles of grassland ecology focusing on soil health, plant identification, forage measuring and monitoring, wildlife/livestock interaction - especially the Greater Prairie Chicken and Northern Bobwhite Quail as well as other grassland birds, mammals, and aquatic species, and rangeland improvement concepts, practices, and systems. The cadre of instructors includes NRCS, K-State Agronomy/Extension/Geography, state agencies, organizations, and ranchers. most of Wednesday is spent on a neighboring ranch to interact with a ranching family as they share their management and production philosophies.
