Ancestral Arts Basketry Workshop • Douglas County
Saturday, Oct 26th, 2013 @ 9am
Watson Park • 727 Kentucky • Lawrence, KS • Map
Join GHF and ancestral arts expert Wade Myslivy who will host a basketry workshop using local plant materials. Prior to the workshop, participants can go on in a foraging walk to collect materials which will then be used to create functional baskets and woven art. The foraging walk is not required to attend the basketry class but highly recommended.
Wade is self-trained in a number of ancestral arts including cordage and primitive textile arts, basketry, bowyery, hide tanning, and tool construction and this is a great opportunity to learn more about some of the traditional uses of many of our local plant species.
The location for the workshop is listed below and the location for the foraging walk will be announced approx. 2 weeks prior to the event. It will take place either close to or in Lawrence. Participants can attend either or both events although space is limited and an RSVP is required. Email Kim Bellemere at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot (and let her know which event you are attending).
Both events are free but donations will be accepted to help cover costs. Please contact Kim to RSVP and for more information.
