This annual fall workday is one of the best times to visit this private 40-acre urban wildlife area in the heart of Lawrence, KS, for the use by local Girl Scouts and other youth. This event draws volunteers of all ages; individuals and groups welcome, and any amount of time appreciated. Our work covers a meadow, wetland, woodland, campsites, and trails, focusing on wood cutting, honeysuckle removal, and native woods restoration. Folks with chainsaws needed. Other jobs include stocking woodpiles, burning brush, mulching, collecting seed, wetland maintenance, litter pickup in streams, and more. Instruction, tools, gloves, water and refreshments, including hot cocoa and s'mores, provided. RSVP is requested, and more details will be sent at that time. RAIN DATE: NOV. 10
