Old World Bluestem Meeting • Cloud County
Thursday, Dec 5th, 2013 @ 5pm-8pm
Miltonvale City Hall • 107 Starr • Miltonvale, KS • Map
Caucasian Bluestem, also known as Old World Bluestem, has been increasingly seen across NE-Kansas and is causing real problems for cattle producers.
It is a non-native species that is drought tolerant and very aggressive, but lower in quality than native species.
Cattle will often leave Old World Bluestem untouched while grazing native pastures, thus reducing gains and stocking rates.
Once Old World Bluestem gets established, it is very hard to control and can takeover an entire pasture.
Walt Fick, KSU Rangeland Specialist, and Dwayne Rice, NRCS Rangeland Specialist, will be presenting information on identification and control of this invasive grass.
