Hidden Valley Camp, located in the center of Lawrence, KS, is a 40-acre semi-wilderness camp for local Girl Scouts and other youth. A non-profit organization has managed this camp with native wildlife in mind for 58 years.
Our main focus of this annual workday will clearing out the invasive honeysuckle shrubs and vines. Join scouts, neighbors and community groups as we clear and burn honeysuckle, as well as other camp maintenance projects, including wetland, campsite and trail maintenance, cutting fire wood, stocking woodpiles, planting native trees and shrubs, and much more. Most tools and gloves provided, although loppers, handsaws and skilled folks with chainsaws are appreciated. Warming fires with s'mores and hot cocoa provided! Dress in layers for the weather and wear durable, enclosed shoes. Minors under 15 must be accompanied by an adult, and and everyone must sign a waiver.
