Prairie Seed Collecting at Burnett's Mound • Shawnee County
Sunday, Nov 16th, 2014 @ 1-3pm
SW Skyline Pkwy & SW 35th Street • Topeka, KS • Map
Volunteers are needed to help collect prairie wildflower and grass seed for the prairie restoration at the Children's Discovery Center. Burnett's Mound contains substantial upland prairie along with views of the city from its highest point. We will focus on getting seed of grasses, asters, goldenrods and maybe some orchids. Volunteers should wear sturdy footwear and long pants. Bring a plastic pail or paper sack for collecting seeds. Pruning sheers are helpful too. No experience is necessary. All ages can help. Please contact Vivien if you plan to attend. We may celebrate afterwards with a stop at the Blind Tiger Brewery at 37th & Kansas. Meet at the main gate to the park which is one block west of 35th & Skyline Pkwy. Directions: Take the Gage Blvd exit on I-470. Go south to SW 35th and take right. Go about 5 blocks to the gate.
