Snyder Prairie Workday: Brush Cutting • Jackson County
Saturday, Jan 17th, 2015 @ 9:30am
158th Rd & U Rd • Mayetta, KS • Map
GHF’s volunteer prairie management group, Groundhogs, meets at Snyder Prairie on the 3rd Saturday of each month of the year, except December. Snyder Prairie is a 140-acre tract of land composed of prairie and woods east of Mayetta, Kansas.
We’ll assemble along U Road just past the 2nd creek crossing south of the intersection of U and 158th Roads. We’ll be working on the southwestern tract of land on the property removing woody vegetation along the southern boundary in order to prepare for a spring prescribed burn. Removing the trees, shrubs, stumps, and downed timber will allow us to mow a fire break along the southern boundary. Dress appropriately for winter field work, wear boots, jeans, and a hat and bring leather gloves. Expect it to be cold and bring a personal supply of water and perhaps a snack. We’ll work until we get tired or cold. Contact Frank to help
