Snyder Prairie Workday: Brush Cutting • Jackson County

Saturday, Feb 21st, 2015 @ 9am
158th Rd & U Rd • Mayetta, KS • Map

Let’s start at 9 am. We will be finishing clearing out the trees, saplings, and brush along the southern boundary in MU 6 located in the extreme southwest tract of Snyder Prairie. If we complete that task, we will also remove some old fence lines in the area. Dress appropriately for field work, wear boots, jeans, and a hat and bring leather gloves. Be prepared for cold weather and bring a personal supply of water and perhaps a snack. The goal is to remove all the woody vegetation along the fence line so that a mower can mow a 20-foot firebreak in preparation for a spring burn, so the more volunteers the quicker we’ll get the work done. We only have another 200 feet or so of the boundary to complete.

Snyder Prairie is about 18 miles north of Topeka on Hwy. 75. To get to the site, go east on 158th St. at Mayetta and go 3 miles to U Road, and then turn south (right) and go another 4/10 of a mile. If you’ve driven to the next cross road (154th Street), you’ve gone a bit too far. We will walk in at the gate located on the east side of U Road.
