Chisholm Creek Park Honeysuckle Removal • Sedgwick County

Saturday, Apr 25th, 2015 @ 8am-noon
6232 E. 29th Street North • Wichita, KS • Map

The Great Plains Nature Center and the City of Wichita Park Department are conducting a half-day event to remove bush honeysuckle at Chisholm Creek Park in northeast Wichita. Bush honeysuckle is a woody invasive non-native plant that aggressively out-competes native shrubs and trees. It degrades wildlife habitat, reduces species diversity, and can prevent regeneration of Kansas' native forests. This work project will improve the health and long-term survival of the riparian forest within the park. The event will be held from 8:00 am to noon. Bring gloves (leather work gloves are best) and a spade shovel for digging out the plants. Small honeysuckle plants are easily pulled because of their shallow roots. Meet at the main GPNC parking lot at 6232 E. 29th Street North. A hotdog/hamburger lunch will be provided afterwards for participants. Please RSVP so we have an accurate head count for lunch!
