Prescribed Burning Workshop to be Held at the WSU Field Station
Numerous local and state wide organizations are pulling together to host a prescribed burning workshop focusing on reasons to burn CRP and rangeland, weather conditions for safe burning, ways to reduce the risk of fire escapes and more. The workshop will be held at the WSU Field Station , 28900 W. 87th St. S., Viola, Kansas on Thursday, March 5, 2015. The local Chapters of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever along with the Sedgwick County Conservation District will sponsor the luncheon for the group. There will be a $15.00 pre-registration Or $20.00 at the door fee to cover the cost of the instructional book and other materials that you will be able to take home with you. Check in for the workshop will begin at 9:00 AM and presentations will start at 9:30 AM. The training will last approximately four hours. Presentations will cover reasons to burn and prescribed burning's effect on wildlife and livestock, weather conditions for safe burning, a preview of 2015 fire forecasts by the National Weather service, burning equipment, regulations, liability issues and more.
The workshop will also offer the participants a hands on burn plan development course for a portion of the Field Station with a burn demonstration to be conducted at a later date.
