Join KNPS for the 2026 Annual Wildflower Weekend in Johnson County, September 25, 26 and 27, where we will explore the beautiful natural park system created and maintained by Johnson County Parks and Recreation (JCPRD). Within the parks are remnant and restored prairie systems along with natural woodlands and neighboring urban areas that invite visitors to experience the historical landscape through native plant gardens.
JCPRD manages over 10,000 acres, including four streamway parks and 150 miles of scenic trails that attract approximately 7.8 million visitors annually.
Our Annual Membership Meeting will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26 when we will present Annual Awards, elect Board Members, and view entries to the KNPS member Annual Photo Contest. Our featured speaker will be Matt Garrett, Natural Resource Manager for JCPRD who will speak about restoring natural vegetation in urban parks including lessons learned in managing and controlling invasive plant species.
There will be a Seed Swap and a Silent Auction during the Annual Membership Meeting. The AWW Invitation and Itinerary has the details for these activities.
Current KNPS members will receive an AWW Invitation and Itinerary by mail, or you can download a PDF copy here. Registration is due by Sept. 16.

Photo Contest
The KNPS Annual Photo Contest will be held online, and is open to current members only. The deadline for submitting photographs is September 13.
The top three photos in each category will be shown during the Membership Meeting. We encourage all KNPS members to enter photos.
The 2026 KNPS Native Plant of the Year is Side-oats Grama grass, Bouteloua curtipendula. The Native Plant of the Year is one of the Photo Contest categories you can submit your photos to.

2026 AWW Registration:
Registration fees are $20 per person for access to the Annual Membership Meeting and all of the outdoor events. Children under 12 are free. Use drop down arrow to indicate how many you are paying for.

Donations
Your added generous donations help KNPS extend, statewide, our support of native plant awareness, provide non-profit funding, award our Mary A. Bancroft scholarship, plan for legacy initiatives and also helps fund the Plant A Prairie Program that provides native plant gardens to school children.
