Restoration Realities 2 • Leavenworth County

Interested in prairie restoration and how it works? Join the Jayhawk Audubon Society and Grassland Heritage Foundation for our second Restoration Realities workshop and see what it takes to start and manage a new prairie project.

Presentations: Prairie ecologists Frank Norman and Courtney Masterson will talk about fall management of a recent restoration including steps like seeding and burning. They will also answer questions about initiating a project in the fall.

Jennifer Delisle with the Jayhawk Audubon Society will talk about how the plants in small restorations benefit birds and other wildlife.

Tour: There will be a tour of the Bellemere prairie and Kim Bellemere will discuss her family’s successes and challenges in managing a prairie project through the first summer.

Demonstration: Frank and Courtney will lead a small prairie burn and talk about burn safety and how/why to burn a new restoration.

Information from organizations offering financial assistance and other resources will also be available.
