Honeysuckle Warriors at Hidden Valley Camp • Douglas County

Wednesday, Jan 15th, 2020 to Wednesday, Apr 29th, 2020 @ 12-4pm
Durand Reiber • 3420 Bob Billings Pkwy • Lawrence, KS • Map

Season’s Greetings from Hidden Valley! Our winter work on eradicating the invasive honeysuckle shrub will run from January through April. We will be cutting & hauling large pieces of brush through the woods to a campfire to burn it down to biochar (take home some free samples!). If you would like to join the Honeysuckle Warriors Volunteer Crew, please email Durand at to get on the group email list.

There is no commitment to being on the list…just come when you can, for as long as you wish. A group email is sent on Sunday or Monday each week, detailing the location and time frame we will work depending on the weather (all week days, generally around noon to 4 pm or so.) Come prepared for outdoor labor in the woods, wear durable, layered warm clothing, that you can remove as you heat up. Tie up long hair, and wear a cap. Wear durable, totally enclosed, stable footwear. I can provide some gloves, but you’ll probably want to bring your own; leather is best around the fire. Bring your own filled water bottle. We do get HOT!! Tools (hand loppers, hand saws) are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Chainsaws and reciprocal saws are appreciated as well. Set up will include hauling several buckets of water to place around the fire.

Come tap your inner warrior and know that you are doing your part to help native plants and wildlife thrive!
