Prairie Maintenance at Snyder Prairie • Jackson County

Saturday, Mar 27th, 2010
Mayetta, KS • Map

Groundhogs has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 27th for our first of two spring burns. The second burn is scheduled for Saturday, April 3rd. If weather does not permit us to burn on those two Saturdays, we may be burning the subsequent Sundays.Snyder Prairie is about 15 miles north of Topeka on Hwy. 75. To get to the site, go east on 158th St at Mayetta and go 3 miles or so to U St. and then 1) for the March 27th burn: go south (approximately ˝ mile south to our gate (across from the Hug’s Driveway); OR 2) for the April rd burn: go east another 0.5 mile or so to the next drive way. Turn in (right) and park on the grass alongside the drive way. This is Marla Brandon’s who owns the land north of Snyder Prairie. We will assemble there and proceed south into the property. Wear jeans, boots, hat, and a long sleeve shirt and bring a handkerchief to cover your face. It should be cool, so dress in layers—if per change we end up fighting a fire you’ll get plenty warm. Please email me at by as soon as you know you can attend one or both of the burns or call my cell phone at (785) 691-9748. We will work weather permitting. Confirm by cell phone Saturday morning if there are any questions about the weather, etc.
