Spring/Summer KNPS Board Meeting & Outings • Finney County

KNPS Board Meeting followed by botanizing.
Saturday June 4th
8:00a - 10:30a For locals and those who arrived on Friday. Botanize at unplowed prairie/small playa complex owned by K-State about 20 miles north of G.C. Meet at SW Extension Center (4500 East Mary Street) at 8:00 a.m. to carpool to site (Directions to SWREC: from Garden City, head east on East KS Ave/Hwy 156. After passing the Walmart, take a right onto N Jennie Barker Road(at the large intersection) and then take the immediate left onto E. Mary Street. The extension center will be on the left side of the road after approx. 1 mile.)

11:00a - 12:00 Lunch - Bring your own and eat at SW Extension Center or eat before arrival

12:00 - 2:00 Board Meeting (All KNPS members are welcome)
Southwest Research Ext. Center 4500 E. Mary Street

2:15 5:15 Botanizing at Sandsage Bison Range - several locations
Caravan from SW Research Ext. Center

5:30 Members can visit the next two areas at their own leisure
Forest Park Lake - east of Johns St between Mary St and Emerson St
(1/3 mi paved walking track that has direct access to the Talley Trail via a
sidewalk on 11th St.) Enter at 11th St. entrance to Talley Trail
AND/OR Garden City Zoo/Finnup Park to observe several champion trees

7:00 - Group dinner at a local restaurant (Several new chains have opened in Garden City: Buffalo Wild Wings, Old Chicago, The Rib Crib while Las Margaritas is a nice local Mexican restaurant.)

Sunday June 5th
9:00a - Meet at SW Research Ext. Center to caravan to Horsethief Reservoir
or meet group at main entrance off Hwy. 156 about 10:00

10:00a Botanizing at Horsethief Reservoir near Jetmore (55 mi from G.C.)
$5.00 per vehicle daily Park Fee
